Some Amazon Reviews: "I Was Warned: the review that made me download the sample said the reader had just finished it at 4am and was not intending to go to work having obviously read through the night until the book was finished. I made the same mistake and finished it at 3.30am. As all devout readers know; it is rare the author who can develop a new world - J K Rowling being a most notable example and S M Anderson has with this story joined that elite few. "As far as the concept, I won' go into the technical aspects...I leave those to others who are much better versed in the realities of Quantum Mechanics and such. What I will say is that, not since reading "Tunnel in the Sky" by Robert A. Heinlein (a Science Fiction Grand Master) as a young man, have I seen this concept treated so well."Considering that most books in this genre use a 'far-right' slant as their 'evil government', it's actually refreshing to see a well thought out and VERY topical backdrop that turns the tables. Snowflakes should take fair warning that they may not like the backdrop very much, but honestly, it's not a major component of the book other than providing the main characters with motivation.""Atlas shrugged meets a David drake military scii thriller. Liked it and can't wait to read volume 2. Hilarious at times! Keep it up, Mr Anderson.Book New Shores: The Eden Chronicles - Book Three Review :
I am a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, science fiction and fantasy, and I stumbled upon Anderson's work accidentally through End of Summer, book 1 in another of his riveting series (coincidentally, I read that one right before the beginning of the Covid pandemic). One thing I require in any fiction or science fiction book: realism and continuity. The created world needs to make sense. End of Summer checked all those boxes, and more. Once I finished that book I was hungry for more, so I looked for more of Anderson's work and began the Eden Chronicles. Again, I was hooked for the same reasons, and believe me after devouring the first two books, I was looking forward to the release of New Shores! In New Shores, Anderson once again sets the scene in an easily-visualized way, continuing the story of already loved characters as they struggle to create a community that is safe and balanced for every member, no matter who they are or where they come from. Anderson's background gives him a step up in these books, but he also has the talent to present technical details that add texture and depth to the characters and to the story itself without turning off the non-informed reader. I found it easy to become involved with the characters in all of his books, cheering their successes and grieving with them when things didn't go quite as planned. The Eden Chronicles series, while a work of fiction, is not only entertainment. I find the series also reminds me that we need to be awake, we need to support each other, and it inspires me to remember that humanity is more than the sum of its individual parts, capable of amazing things. The best thing about New Shores? The story is not over. If you like fiction that captures the imagination, grab this one! News Shores is the third volume of a series about life and war and struggles and challenges in a parallel universe. This is a genre in its own right but Mr. Anderson's approach I thought has been unique in its description of how awfully life and society on Earth evolved, and how a conspiracy by a small but powerful group of libertarians found the way into a parallel world of their very own. As other reviewers have noted, there is a lot of Ayn Rand here, but with less philosophizing and much more action. Unlike in Atlas Shrugged, the real elite in these books has to fight a government that is murderous and evil, and not just incompetent and immoral. These books are longer than usual for this genre. This is not a criticism, the author is very skilled at creating excitement and suspense and has a good command of the English language and spelling (unfortunately so many authors do not, so this has to be noted).I read the first two books very quickly because they were compelling. Having done so, I did not expect to rate the third at only four stars. Unfortunately, New Shores is slower and more improbable than its predecessors. The scene shifts away from Earth, though there is still some action there but there is now a third parallel universe, with implications of others. The main characters we met in the first volume are still around, but their perfection begins to grate, and some of the new ones struck me almost as caricatures, albeit with hearts of gold. All in all, it took me almost a week to read New Shores and I have a feeling that this series is starting to flatten out. Still, I hope I am wrong and with that hope i will buy the fourth book.
